Trumpet Vine Blooms?
Even in knowing that the trumpet vine is very aggresive, it is the best added color in my garden of Eden. Although it does not grow as rapid as other vines in the garden I would like to increase blooms. Anyone have any remedies?

Trumpet classes in Singapore?
I just joined a symphonic band this year and my tone is horrible, and I can barely go higher than high D. So, should I take up trumpet classes outside school? If so, where and roughly how much will it cost?

Try one and see if it works for you. I think it operates on the same principle as the Bach Megatone mouthpieces. I am not sure. I like the Megatone Mouthpieces, though...so, give it a try. Can't hurt, and if you don't like it, sell it on EBay.
I personally think it might cut down the harmonics, though.

Having trouble with Trumpet apature. What whould you do?
I am currently in the 10th grade and after d oing some reading, I read that my apature was wrong. My trumpet was centered on my top lip, and you could see some pink. I am trying to fix it, as I got a band class coming up and I the only trumpet in a group of 25. Any specific way to go about doing this? any particualar read? I got Arbans Complete Compositorium for Cornet Method for christmas. Thanks ahead of time! (almost forgot, getting school subscription to SmartMusic in a week. Mabye this helps?)

At many auditions, the sightreading is just a makeshift of complex rhythms without a melody. What are some good trumpet books with mainly difficult rhythms and not much melody?

Its been six years I'm still waiting for mine to grow. Get some deer in your back yard thats a great way to kill every plant.

Offshoots were coming up in my yard and my neighbors yard. I had to attack it with a vengeance. When I dug up the ground, I found that the root was the size of a tree root. I drilled holes in the root and salted the root. I also poured boiling water on the root and then resalted. I split the root open with an axe and put kosher salt inside the cut. Eventually I killed the main root but all the little offshoots were busy making their own new vines. It was a living nightmare. I got rid of all the small vines with the boiling water treatment. I eventually resorted to roundup before my neighbors sued me. Even roundup had a hard time with these nighmarish plants. The upshot is that I sold my house and now it is somebody else's problem. I did not sell because of the vine but I was glad to be rid of the problem. This was no morning glory. I bought and planted this thing myself and will never do so again.

When I moved into this house 19 years ago as a renter, I inherited a trumpet vine - campsis radicans. I have learned that it was the last plant to leaf out in the spring and the first to lose it's leaves in the fall. Here's my horror story and what I've learned about this vine. Over time the vine began to bloom and pop up everywhere in the yard. I would pull the sprouts only to find more year after year. When it pops up in the lawn it can just be mowed. After 13 years we purchased the house and had to cut down 5 trees and regrade the land due to overplanting and flooding. When we dug up the stumps from the trees and regraded we discovered roots of the vine 3' to 4' deep in the soil, up to 30' from the parent plant and as large around as my wrist! We dug and dug and, well you get the point. A year later we still had sprouts coming up from bits of roots that we'd missed.
Here is how I've learned you can get rid of it. Now, up until this point I had NEVER used herbicides or pesticides in the garden. Here's what I did and you can do to get rid of it. Put about an inch of Round Up Weed and Grass Killer Super Concentrate (you could also use Brush B Gone) in a clear plastic container with a tight fitting lid like you might get at the deli with potato salad. Cut a slit in the lid and insert the tips of the vine in the solution when in active growth (has leaves on it and the leaves need to be in the solution). Leave the vines in the solution for 48 hours and then cut the vines near the lid. To remove the vine from the lid, be sure and take the container to a safe place so that no solution splashes on anything precious. You can reuse the solution until it is all absorbed. Everytime I find a new sprout I do this same procedure. So far there have been no sprouts from areas that were treated this way.

Do not use silver polish. The black spots sound like they are places where the finish has worn off. Take it to the repair shop and ask if they can fix the black spots before you do more damage.

Step ThreeClose the bathroom sink's drain, and place a 2- or 3-foot-square piece of plywood over the sink.
Step FourFind two Turkish bath towels in good condition. Avoid using worn towels with holes or tears in them.
Step FiveFold one towel twice or more so it will form a thick pad to protect the valves and delicate tubes of the instrument.
Step SixPlace the towel on the bottom of the bathtub. Be sure it covers the drain hole.
Step SevenFold and place the other towel on the tabletop or the plywood covering the sink. The work area must be clean and supply cushioning.
Step EightFind a comfortable chair or stool.
Step NineMake sure that the light sources are adequate.
Step TenGet a gooseneck halogen lamp that will illuminate the interiors of small parts.
Step Eleven Fill the tub with 6 inches of lukewarm water and add a 1/2 cup of mild liquid soap.
Tips %26amp; Warnings
Check the trumpet to determine if all the parts are complete, undamaged and intact.
Blow through the instrument, depressing all three valves, to discover any blockages.
Put a clean wash rag in the end of the bell to seal the air chambers.
While blowing to create some air pressure, open and close the main tuning slide spit valve to determine how well it prevents air leakage when under pressure.
Press the third valve, blow air, and open and close that spit valve. Does it seal? If there is leakage, fresh corks should be installed.
Remove the rag in the bell and produce a sound, if you can.
Run a chromatic scale. Listen for the half/step note changes for accuracy and quality of tone produced. If there are leaks in the valves or the tuning slides, the tone quality will be inferior and compromised.
Used and old instruments can harbor infectious bacteria. Be careful about how quickly you place your lips on old or used mouthpieces. Disinfect them using an alcohol soak, or use your own mouthpiece.
If you are checking an instrument for potential purchase, be sure all the slides and valves move and function with ease. Dented slides and "frozen" slides are expensive to replace.

No its really not. I especially wouldn't buy a trumpet from a place like Costco. Try woodwind %26amp; brasswind, just google them for their website. If you are really going to be playing for any length of time you should really try and spend $450-500 at least, even on a beginner horn. If you buy a really low quality horn, something will break or stop working, probably not too much longer than a year (not too mention the sound and ease of playing) - and to pay more money to get it repaired/worked on just doesn't make sense. Whatever you do stay away from those novelty horns with the color plating, they are really terrible, and take care of and carefully maintain whatever you do buy.

Switching from trumpet to tuba...?
I was wondering if anyone would know this... would it be easier to figure out tuba's notes in relation to trumpet's, or buy an essential elements book (like I bought when I started trumpet) and learn the notes by playing the songs?

If you will be playing an Eb tuba then there is a direct and obvious relationship to the trumpet and tuba fingerings (you finger the tuba the same as the trumpet by reading the bass clef as though it were treble clef and changing the key signature. ie: F immediately below the staff on an Eb tuba is fingered the same as D immediately below the staff on a trumpet - same staff position, different clef, same fingering)
If you will be playing a BBb tuba then you will need to learn a new set of fingerings altogether. There is a direct relationship between baritone BC and BBb tuba and many trumpet players find that transitioning to baritone/euphonium first and then to tuba is a little easier.
For me, the way I learned the fingerings was to learn the relationship of the overtone series. I learned all of the notes that are open for example, then what was 1st valve, etc... I then applied that to reading the music. This assumes that you already read bass clef fluently. I used that same mathematical method with trombone (ie: 1st position plays (bottom up) pedal Bb, Bb, F, Bb, D, F, Bb -- 2nd position plays A, E, A, C#, E, A) ☺
On BBb tuba, you'd do open plays Bb, Bb, F, Bb, D, F, Bb, D, F... on trumpet, if you play open start with the really low pedal notes you have concert pitch Bb Bb F Bb D F Bb or in trumpet pitch pedal C, middle C, G, C (in the staff), E, F, high C... see a pattern here? ☺ The pattern is the same for all of the brass except French Horn.

6th grade trumpet help?
hey, im in sixth grade and i play the trumpet.... out of my period i usualy get about 4-5th chair,but id like better so if you could give me any tips.... o right i have the best sound as a trumpet out of my period and i have the fingers completely mastered but i dont know what im doing wrong. thx for the help = )

Being a trumpeter in my High School Jazz Band, i recall the days i used to be last chair in middle school. It sucks! Anyhow, from what i understand your fingering and tone are alright. Keep checking your posture and that you are using your valve slides when needed. To improve your playing even more you might want to practice sightreading everyday. Also one good technique would be to learn all your scales (major, minor,chromatic, blues, etc...) and the modes that go with them. Modes such as (mixolydian,dorian,aeolian, locrian,phrygian, lydian). These modes that i mentioned, i was unfortunate to learn in jr, high, so i hope they have given you a head start. Also make sure you clean your horn daily, practice lip drills, long tones, slurs, pedals, and practice your improvisation. Oh, and maybe ask your teacher to move you up to 1st chair! hope i could help and keep up the practicing!
Reply:Don't feel bad my sixth grade year i started of last chair and stayed in last chair but i kept on practicing and practicing at home at school any time i got free so if you just practice it helps believe me. some tips: you may have a good sound but think about it. is it strained? you have to relax your throat and you steady air flow be consistent with your air flow and don't put pressure on your lips like when you get done playing you see a ring around your lips that shouldn't happen. you should feel like you are pulling the mouthpeice away from your mouth but not so far that you can't play hope that helps . i have been playing for almost 4 years now and in my 8th grade year i was a first trumpet.

Reply:Don't feel bad my sixth grade year i started of last chair and stayed in last chair but i kept on practicing and practicing at home at school any time i got free so if you just practice it helps believe me. some tips: you may have a good sound but think about it. is it strained? you have to relax your throat and you steady air flow be consistent with your air flow and don't put pressure on your lips like when you get done playing you see a ring around your lips that shouldn't happen. you should feel like you are pulling the mouthpeice away from your mouth but not so far that you can't play hope that helps . i have been playing for almost 4 years now and in my 8th grade year i was a first trumpet.

I'm a sophmore trumpet player in a small high school, and i need to be able to play high, and long, not neccisarily at the same time. I can hit a c usualy, but alot of the time i have trouble hitting the c. Can anybody help me with a practice routine. The trumpet is my life and i'm willing to take how ever long it takes a day to achieve.

Take it from me and years of playing that the wisest thing to do is NOT to start off playing high notes. It's much more agreeable and marketable to be able to play with a beautiful tone. Trust me. Kids always think that playing high and loud is best. Try finding someone that can play when a baby is asleep WITHOUT waking the baby up. That's about 100 x's harder to do than playing high.
However, it's always good to extend your range when properly done. You have to be sure that you can play the lower tones "pedal tones for example" first. Then start playing your scales. a low C to middle C to high C scales are good. When you start to feel your lips hurting or getting tired, STOP. No matter what, STOP. The next day you will feel the difference. Do it and in a few months you will start to notice that your endurance and higher range will increase. Best of all, you'll do it the right way: slowly and surely. There are many aspects of playing that I can't discuss here in a few paragraphs but I'm assuming that you're aware of breath support and proper embochure i.e. don't puff your cheeks, don't slouch etc...

Does this make me a bad trumpet player?
i play the trumpet. i've been playing it for 4 years now. but the thing is i can't really hit those high notes, especially ones off the scale, and hold it. the reason why (this is what my mom thinks) is because of my allergies and some breathing problem i have. it's not asthma but something else i guess. since i can't play that high i usually get 2nd or 3rd trumpet parts. since i started playing kids have told me to quit because i sucked and they've told me i'll never be good and blah, blah blah. i never did quit and i don't plan on quiting. i like playing the trumpet. but since i can't play real high does it make me a bad trumpet player? i also find that it sucks that i waon't ever be able to play really high like you see people in bands and orchestras and stuff. now that's depressing because it's so cool how they can get so high. i wish i didn't have this breathing problem.

Tips for Improv on trumpet?
Im just beginning improv on my trumpet and I really need some help. I know about blue's scales but Im still a little hazy on chords. When I do improv I find that my riff's start to get repetitive. I need some new ideas to make it sound more interesting and with a little dab of color.

Chords do not just mean arpeggios to trumpets first of all. Chords are chords! as for improv....riffs are great things. you can change them slightly everytime you play them...rhythmically, melodically. You can growl, bend, smear....add yourself to the riff! as for 2-5-1 phrases....listen to the greats. clifford brown, booker little....if you just search online you'll find a list somewhere! the main thing i focus on in my playing is emotion. I can play the same thing 100 times and it wont ever sound the same....due to emotion. every note is played differently every time. Focus on emotion and riffs can have endless variety! good luck.

Reply:It just takes time, patience and practice to become a good jazz improvisor. You have to listen to a lot of jazz, practice all your scales and arpeggios, get books about what to practice, get some Jamey Aebersold play-a-longs and start going to jam sessions, if possible. You will develop more vocabulary over time.
Reply:The term "Chords" just means arpeggios for trumpet players. Do not worry about being repetitive because that happens to everybody who has lots of experience. That is why some people have a personal style that can be recognized almost instantly like Sachmo repeating high c over and over again.
Reply:You need to learn patterns that can get you from one chord to the next. Usually you try to find a note in one scale that is a half step up or down to the next note of the other chord.

Tips for Improv on trumpet?
Chords do not just mean arpeggios to trumpets first of all. Chords are chords! as for improv....riffs are great things. you can change them slightly everytime you play them...rhythmically, melodically. You can growl, bend, smear....add yourself to the riff! as for 2-5-1 phrases....listen to the greats. clifford brown, booker little....if you just search online you'll find a list somewhere! the main thing i focus on in my playing is emotion. I can play the same thing 100 times and it wont ever sound the same....due to emotion. every note is played differently every time. Focus on emotion and riffs can have endless variety! good luck.

Reply:It just takes time, patience and practice to become a good jazz improvisor. You have to listen to a lot of jazz, practice all your scales and arpeggios, get books about what to practice, get some Jamey Aebersold play-a-longs and start going to jam sessions, if possible. You will develop more vocabulary over time.
Reply:The term "Chords" just means arpeggios for trumpet players. Do not worry about being repetitive because that happens to everybody who has lots of experience. That is why some people have a personal style that can be recognized almost instantly like Sachmo repeating high c over and over again.

You need to play the instrument that your most interested in. If your not excited about trombone then you likely not enjoy playing it. Two trumpets in the same band shouldn't be a problem. Especially if you find someone else to play trombone.

My neighbor has lots of trumpet creeper in there back yard .so iwant to take a clipping. but will it root.Ive tried rooting alot of things .please help

These plants can tolerate full sun to partial shade and once established like regular to moderate water.
Then just sit back and enjoy. The butterflies and most hummingbirds love these beautiful plants.

Should i play the trumpet??
I am going into high school and cant decide whether i want to stick with the trumpet or not. i dont really mind the insturment itself i just dont want to be the only girl, and be some wierdo. high school brings around enogh social problems as it is-i dont want to have more added on top of the normal amount. i am really scared of what other people think(which i no i shouldnt but im am 14 and thats wat i do)
I am really considering quiting but i no that i will regret it. i just cant decide-and really need people outside of my family opions. please help me im desperate :(

Usually the guys are really cocky (it's just the way trumpet players that are guys are) and the section needs a girl to keep track of them. I play mellophone (if you know what that is...) and I love it! Brass players rock! Stick with the trumpet.

Just to let you know, I got tired of the sax, so I taught myself all the other instruments in the orchestra...that's how obsessed I am.

Hi, i've played trumpet for a few years now and have busked on the streets with sheet music. But i now i just want to play without any music and sound good; by improvising without sounding repetitive. Bugle Call /Cavalry Charge/Trumpet Solo?
im trying to find out the name of a piece music played on a large type bugle/trumpet. its very fast, and im sure its got something to do with a hunting call or cavalry charge, ive seen it on youtube played by someone in the forces.(cant find it now) the bugle is accompanied by the rest of the brass band. its a fantastic solo, if only i could remember what its called. anyone help?

If you're just learning just go to you're local music store and ask for beginning method books or ask for the one the local school uses.
If you want something more advanced Arban's is the bible. Clarke Technical Studies are a must. I like the Vizzutti method as well.

Hey I've been looking for a semi-hard trumpet ballot to perform with my jazz band. We are going to use it for the spring concert. Any idea's? It also will vary if the Model 18037 is lacquered or silver plated. You will get more for it if you are upgrading to a more expensive horn. $600 sounds reasonable, but if there are any scratches, dents, or plate wear, the price would be greatly decreased.

I`ve soaked the trumpet in cink w/ dish soap, and also tapped on it with a small ball peen hammer.
Is there any way to get these free without an expensive repair??

Bach 37 trumpet?
How much would i get if i traded in a bach 37 trumpet?
It is about 3 years old. there has never been any work done on the trumpet. im thinking maybe $600. thanks!

Your question is vastly dependent upon what you are trading it in for. It is largely the discretion of the dealer you are trading it with. It also will vary if the Model 18037 is lacquered or silver plated. You will get more for it if you are upgrading to a more expensive horn. $600 sounds reasonable, but if there are any scratches, dents, or plate wear, the price would be greatly decreased.

Beverly Hills by Weezer. Trumpet solo?
Does anyone know the notes for the muted trumpet solo in Beverly Hills by Weezer?
I'm pretty sure they're using a harmon mute, but if I'm wrong, someone correct me please.

Girls in the 6th grade is the trumpet a good instrument to play?
I signed up for trumpet in band. THe band director said it would be good for me did you like playing the trumpet i want your opinion.

I am a trumpet player in high school, so obviously I am going to reccomend it, but aside from my bias, I think that if you believe it's the right thing for you, go for it. Your also in 6th grade, so if you change your mind during the year it won't be all that bad. In the end, it's all up to you.
If you do select trumpet however, just keep practicing, learn new techniques from more experienced players, challenge yourself, and watch the ego...at times :]. If you keep that up, you will most definately become a great trumpet player.

Duets: 44 duos for trumpet : addressing rhythmic challenges inspired by J.S. Bach, Igor Stravinsky, Samuel Barber, Maurice Durufle, and Alec Wilder / by Chris Gekker.
Here's what judges are looking for with sight-reading at the student level.
(Not in order of importance each aspect is equal)
1) Rhythm vocabulary (can you play the right rhythm even if you don't play all the right notes)
2) Rhythmic pulse (If you're in 4/4 time Do you know where you are in each individual measure? Can you mess up in time? You totally blew beats 1,2 and 3 but came back strong on beat 4 "in time" and didn't lose the pulse, didn't rush or drag the tempo)
3) Pitch Accuracy (no explanation needed)
4) Start to Finish - Don't go back for wrong notes, don't stop
5) Musicality -Sight-reading phrases and making music no matter what the situation is always the most important thing.
All these things add up to a good sight reading audition. My point is if you play the "hard" rhythm right but all those other aspects are weak = low score.
Practicing all scales and arpeggios with a metronome is essential for becoming a good musician period but it really helps with sight-reading.
Remember you can use any music you've never seen for sightreading. Dedicate 5 minutes of each practice session to something you've never seen before.
No practicing allowed. No stopping allowed. Look at the key pick a tempo and go. The most important part at first is to keep the 'beat' don't lose the beat ever this is essential and the key to good sight-reading. Remember all those complex rythms are just riding on top of pulse of the time signature.

Am I on the right track to becoming a professional trumpet player?
I'm 14 years old and a freshman in hish school. I've played since I was 11.
I've been to Solo and Ensemble festival both last year and this year, last year I played a song out of the trumpet stars book called Mira by Vandercook. I took that solo and auditioned for the top band in the state and made it. However, I was last chair.
Over the summer, I took another trumpet star solo, Rigel to a local international program and made principal trumpet of their top band, falling short of the orchestra because I was too young
This year, I took Andante and Alegretto by Balay to Districts and did just as well as last year. Today, I took that solo to states and was the only freshman in my room to get a one. My judge told me that I'm ready for the Hummel Mov. 1.
I practice hard, not as well as I could, but I play a lot. I work out my Arban and Clarke and I have a fabulous teacher.
I really want to be a pro and go to a nice music school. Am I on the right track? What can I do to improve?

Reply:My friend, I know how you feel. I've been striving to be a musician too. I've actually dabbled in a little bit of trumpet as well. The pieces you're playing are very impressive. I'm not exaggerating that your skill and practicing on that will lead you to great achievements in music.
However, you have to remember that you should study lots of different types of music to be a pro. Regurgitating music put in front of you by a teacher will make you good... learning everything you can will make you pro.
Especially for trumpet, get some jazz into you. Learn how to improvise, be a part of a jazz band... Think about it. How many classical style trumpeters can the common man name? And then how many jazz trumpeters?
Besides, I've always thought jazz was fun. Enjoy the style, and become the next Miles Davis.
Reply:Just a note for you - Good choice of instruments. Trumpet is in high demand all the time in every kind of gig. Jazz, classical, shows, rock bands, you name it. You're going to be more employed than us guitarists.
Don't forget to check out the Cleveland Institute of Music, where the principal trumpet of the greatest orchestra in the world teaches. (Cleveland Orchestra)

The "Musical Ivy league" consists of Juilliard, Jacobs School of Music, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Curtis Institute, Cincinnati Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and Oberlin Conservatory - US Schools. If you are British, top schools in the UK are: any of the Royal Academies of Music, Royal Northern School of Music in Manchester, and Oxford University.
Never give it up, as hard as it is now and hard as it will get, it is so worth it in the end. You may want to consider a dual degree in Music Performance and Music Education. It is always wise to know how to teach your instrument. Or you could do Performance/Theory and Musicology. Whatever suits you best.
Remember always aim too high. You may miss, but if you aim too low, you will hit hard.

With 200 to 300 professionals auditioning for every one position you need to have someone who teaches you not only how to play but how to take auditions. Buy orchestra excerpt books and parts and practice them in addition to your solo repertoire. As others have said do get a college degree and listen to orchestra music live whenever you can.

This is probably one of the best ways to become known. You may also consider taking a private lesson with a university professor. They can also direct you in what you should be doing. Audition for regional and all state ensembles and perform with your local youth orchestras and community bands. In order to become a better performer it is very important that you listen to recordings of famous musicians and have a basic understanding of music theory and ear training. Keep practicing, taking lessons and playing in as many groups as you can. And remember to have other interests outside of music for balance.
Reply:Yes you are definitely doing pretty much everything you can. Just don't do so much that you are burnt out by the time you graduate from High school. Make sure you still make time for fun, friends, and relaxing!! Life in general! I was a music major in college, so I am a professional singer. Get a degree in trumpet performance at a good university, and make sure you make connections with people you want to maybe work with, or people that can help you get gigs. College should help you make tons of connections. Good Luck, and its so nice to hear about excited young people who want to be musicians!

Centerpiece ideas for 19" trumpet vases??
I've seen calla lily pictures before, which typically have 12-15 calla lilies per vase (seems to be more expensive than I had hoped). And some I've seen using 10 callas with green filler and branches, hopefully cutting costs.
Do you know of any good sites to give me any good ideas to use roses or carnations in these trumpet vases? Those are our main flowers, but I'm not opposed to calla lilies for the dramatic effect. Just wanted to get more ideas before settling.

Well, here are a few ideas...but the roses can get a little pricey. My suggestions is to get it filled with a lot of greenary and a few in season flowers...you think all that greenery would look bad, but actually it really isn't. Mine had a lot of greenery because of the cost (I also suggest Gerbera Daisies if you are trying to cut costs) and it still looked wonderful...

Reply:I was at a wedding recently. They also used the trumpet vases with calla lily. Each vase had 3 large blooms of white calla lily, with a dark green whisper type greenery. It was spectacular. The circled each vase with tea light candles. On the sweetheart table for the couple, the vase also had white roses. The tall vases add drama to any centerpiece. The calla lily really makes a statement.

Learning the trumpet?
My son is learning how to play the trumpet. We've noticed in the books that several of the notes are played that same way. I don't understand that. The G and C are played the same. Is it just a limitation of the trumpet or are we missing something?

No, the G and the C have the same fingering. The way you make the different pitches is by adjusting your lips. On brass instruments you can play higher notes by tightening your lips. I would highly recommend that you your son take private lessons, it's the best way to learn.

Learning to play the trumpet...?
I started renting a trumpet about 6 days ago. I can play a fewnotes %26amp; be on pitch/have decent tone. I have only played music for the past two years, all of it has been self-taught, %26amp; only piano and some guitar, but its all been mainly by ear, i tried teaching myself music theory, ican read sheet music but slowly. When I picked up the trumpet, I was proud of myself for having been able to at least play some decent notes/melodies after only 6 days and never even having had played an instrument with a mouthpiece in my entire life. i decided to take lessons %26amp; my teacher is very good at it %26amp; i wanted to join band, but i know school starts in 2 months, and i doubt ill be able it play well in that amount of time. I cant hit high notes well, i can play a c and d decently but other than that its too difficult. do u think i should keep going, or should i have already had mastered most of the notes by now?.. %26amp; i am 16, do u think thats too old to start?... %26amp; trumpet players, any advice ?

You should keep going. There are a reason that most high schools have different levels of band. It might be too late to join marching band which begins soon. If I were you and I really wanted to be in band, and I wasn't employed, I would spend as much time practicing as possible. You do not need to be blowing in order to practice. You can hold the instrument and do the fingerings if your embouchure is shot. If you take the time to just plain old read the music, it is like practicing for 2 hours. Also, talk to the band director and tell him/her that you are trying to play the trumpet. Band directors love brass players, So you are practically "in" if you practice hard. I would go for it.

Which layer of the CD controls the trumpet? If I remove it can I play my trumpet and record it for myself? Do you need a special remover to remove the trumpet layer?

An audio file comes in with all the audio (layers as you would call it) frequencies and harmonics as one. So there is no real way of erasing the trumpet sound. HOWEVER, you can setup an audio analog/digital filter and rerecord the music again to your computer. In the old days you would do this manually with electronic components, but today powerful software exist that can help you filter out any range of frequency and its harmonics from its original recording. You will need to find that software (doesnt normally come for free) that can help you layer out frequency and harmonic ranges.

a compact disc CD? There are no layers. it's just an audio file, everything together. there is no intelligent solution for removing one particular instrument from an audio file, there are a couple of complex things you can do, but nothing that will achieve what i think you're trying to do

How can I scream on the trumpet, and hit higher notes?
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a noob or anything at trumpet. I'm enterinng my 7th year playing the trumpet, and I could hit the high C in my first year. However, a couple years after my first year, I got braces, which drastically affected my range. I now have my braces off, for almost a month, and I can hit the high C with ease, however I can't hit the D consistenly.
In two days I have marching band tryouts, and I hope to get lead. I've been practicing hard ever since I got my braces off, and I am also aiming for one of the four trumpet solos in our fall show. I NEED to hit the high D, for our opener, it is one note towards the end, yet it is SO critical I hit it. Everytime I go to hit the high D, I tighten my lips, blow a fast stream of air (as fast as I can), and either
1. Nothing comes out
or
2. I hit the C below the high D
On another note, I always wanted to learn how to scream on the trumpet, any tips? Thanks SO much

It's not so much about the quickness of the air at that point, as it is the FORCE behind it. Are you pushing air out of your lungs with your diaphragm?
Make sure you aren't 'pinching' the notes out... you're gonna have to go for the gusto and put all your air into it.
In practice, try working your way up chromatically to the D. Do it over and over and over. Then do an appregio to the D. Once you can do that, start trying to hit it on its own.
Make sure you aren't hurting your teeth. It shouldn't take any more pressing of the moutpiece to your lips or pinching of your lips... it's ALL ABOUT THE AIR.

I've been playing trumpet for five and a half years but I find that I simply can't play my trumpet loudly with good sound. It's not that I'm afraid to play, I love playing in public. Also, my trumpet is in good condition, so that isn't affecting the sound either. Could anyone tell me how to play loudly with good tone?

How can you play more loudly? Increase the amount of air flowing through your lips. Given your statement above... if I had to guess, your teeth are too close together to allow air movement... and, probably lip movement.
Just to make sure that breathing is not the problem, try laying down on your back and playing. If everything gets better immediately, you will have learned how to breathe properly... just remember what it felt like, and breathe like that in your normal playing position. Also, if you can yawn, you can breathe properly. :-)
How much should you open your teeth? Experiment... and, go to extremes! What is too little? What is too much? What is just right? Answer: When the sound is good, and you can increase and decrease the volume of sound easily, your teeth will be in just the right position.
Sight unseen, it is a bit difficult to know what other issues may be present. So, give these ideas a try. They can't hurt!

My son just got a silver trumpet a Getzen Eterna 700 and I was wondering how to properly clean the inside of it. I know and have silver cream to clean it with on the outside.
