Does this make me a bad trumpet player?

i play the trumpet. i've been playing it for 4 years now. but the thing is i can't really hit those high notes, especially ones off the scale, and hold it. the reason why (this is what my mom thinks) is because of my allergies and some breathing problem i have. it's not asthma but something else i guess. since i can't play that high i usually get 2nd or 3rd trumpet parts. since i started playing kids have told me to quit because i sucked and they've told me i'll never be good and blah, blah blah. i never did quit and i don't plan on quiting. i like playing the trumpet. but since i can't play real high does it make me a bad trumpet player? i also find that it sucks that i waon't ever be able to play really high like you see people in bands and orchestras and stuff. now that's depressing because it's so cool how they can get so high. i wish i didn't have this breathing problem.

Does this make me a bad trumpet player?
Every band needs second and third part players too.

Playing the trumpet might actually help your 'breathing problem'. You are exercising your lungs while you play.

The high notes are really more a matter of embouchure (lip aperture and tension) and practice. The length of the note being held is limited by lung capacity. The more you practice, the better you will be able to control your embouchure.

You may need a different mouthpiece for your trumpet. They do come in different sizes and shapes. A different mouthpiece might make it easier for you. Talk to someone who plays trumpet professionally.
Reply:You don't have to play really high notes to be an amazing trumpet player. One tip though, to play a high note, keep your lips tight together and blow strongly into the trumpet. You don't have to blow you lungs out to get a high note, and I doubt it has anything to do with your breathing.
Reply:My sister has been playing the trombone for 2 years now...the thing is her arms are too short to reach all the notes. It's something she can't control, just like you can't control your breathing problem.

It doesn't make you a bad trumpet player if you can't reach the notes. Honestly, it's not ideal, but work with what you've got.

You know that singer Amy Winehouse...she sings like a man (in my opinion), and that works for her. If you want to make it big (which it sounds like you do), start a new trend. A non-high-note-solo trumpet player.

Don't listen to the other kids, if you want to keep playing the trumpet, go for it! And besides...one of these days you might be able to reach the high note, just keep trying!
Reply:the only thing that makes a bad player is the person holding it,if u belive your bad ,your bad,but if u love the game ,don't quit over the false ideals of others, make your self better, push the limit, show them your not bad after all
Reply:no it does not make u a bad trumpet player

all u need to do is (if u can) just keep practicing

i know teachers always tell u practice makes perfect

well it doesn't make perfect but it gets pretty close

just keep trying

u never know maybe some day u might be able to get some of the high notes
