Offer to take up a different instrument or extracurricular activity that you would enjoy - dance, sports, club, etc. That shows them that you're not being lazy or trying to get out of practice; you're just switching to something else.
Reply:Play as loud and as lousy as you can at 2 in the morning. Repeat until they grab your trumpet away. That's what I did.
Reply:Are you american? Then you are lucky... I grew up in India...where parents are generous with spankings. I was supposed to learn how to draw and paint...because my dad DECIDED that i must have extra curricular skills that were SUPPOSED TO MAKE ME HAPPY... and i got slapped and beaten each time i skipped the special art tutorials they bought me ... by the way..i was a lifelong topper in science and will have a phd shortly... and yes... recently i discovered that i am colour blind. so suck it up..parents are like that.
Reply:I don't know how old you are, but have you tried actually telling your mother you don't like it? My parents made us play instruments from 4th grade through 8th, then we could decide if we wanted to continue in high school. I think part of it was wanting us to do something other than just school, so if you don't like that find something you do like to do.
Reply:Did you ever try telling her, that you don't like this. If not shd talk to her but you should have some other activity in your mind to bargain for :-)
Reply:same problem, but with piano, i just avoid practising, in the end they get the idea and will just say that if you dont practice they wont let you go to lessons or will stop taking you to band practice.

Of course, there is a downside to that, depending on how your parents are, you might just get grounded and still made to go to brass band.

good luck with all of this =]
Reply:Play 24/7.

Play badly, and play loudly.
