Does the trumpet have the ability to go higher than a piccolo or flute?

does the trumpet have the ability to go higher than a piccolo or flute? if so whats the highest note it can go?

Does the trumpet have the ability to go higher than a piccolo or flute?
Maynard could play higher than the top of the piano on his horn. Can a flute do that? No, flutes are retarded.
Reply:A really, really great trumpet player with a high range (think Maynard Ferguson) could play higher than a young flute player with an undeveloped high range. Other than that, an average (or better) flute player will have no problems playing higher than an average (or better) trumpet player.

The highest note to expect on a Bb trumpet from a typical high-school player would be C or D two octaves above middle C. (Maynard, of course, can play higher than that- up to G or A). However, a high school flute player should be able to go to the C three octaves above middle C (and may be able to go higher as well).

Since a piccolo sounds an octave higher than the flute, it will be able to play notes higher than either flute or trumpet (up to C 4 octaves above middle C).
Reply:Depends on what you mean by higher. I'm sure you could throw a trumpet higher than a flute. :)

Anyway, no, the trumpet cannot go higher than a flute or piccolo. In fact, the trumpet maxes out at about A6, or two octaves above Middle C on A. The flute can go up to C7, or three octaves above Middle C. And that is due to several different circumstances, but let's not go into that right now. And did you know the violin can go as high as the flute, but has a wider range?

Edit: Sorry, the trumpet can only go to A5, still two octaves above Middle C, depending on what your referencing.
Reply:Well, the trumpet can go higher than a flute if you use a piccolo trumpet, but it depends on the player. Most players can't go higher than the flute, but some somehow can. Neither can go higher than a piccolo can, though. Actually nothing can since it can go to about a high F# past the piano's highest note.
Reply:Generally speaking, no. There may be exceptions to this since a trumpet player's range is a highly individual thing. Maynard played some ridiculously high stuff. Also, we don't know whether you're talking about a Bb trumpet, or something else. Maynard on a piccolo trumpet, yeah, maybe higher than a flute.

Don't forget that, although most of the fingering charts found in method books show the flute maxing out at C7 (middle C=C4), advanced flute players can play notes above this. I'm not sure how much higher, though...
