I have this trumpet that my brother used to use, and I want to play/clean it. How do you get the tuning slide out? And the valves, how do you put them in correctly? Anything about trumpets would help me right now, haha!
No, seriously.
One of my friends tried to telll me how to do this over the phone, so I would be a lot better offf if you had some diagrams and such...?
Thanks in advance!!
Trumpet Everything?
If slides are STUCK, then this is no job for an amateur. Take it to a music shop that does repairs, and get it disassembled and cleaned. Alternately, see if there is a HS trumpet player (ask the teacher if you have to) who will do this for you as a favor, a Scout or Honor Society credit, or for a pizza. It takes someone with a little knowledge and experience, but you might not have to get a pro. I have been a music teacher since 1971 - trust me on this one. I am REALLY GLAD that you want ot pay, and that you know that the instrument has to be cleaned and oiled first - but having someone who KNOWS how to do it, is better than you hurting it.
Reply:Take it in for a good over haul and then the music fixer can show you in person how to clean, oil and maintain.
If you don't have the money for a complete over haul, they can at least put it on the "shaker" to loosen the slides and then you can do the rest for a nominal fee. How?
Take out all slide and valves, but keep them in order or find the numbers. It matters how you put them back or the trumpet won't play.
You can actually give the trumpet a bath in lukewarm water if you keep any felt pieces out of the water and dry thoroughly.
When it's fairly clean and completely dry, take a very very miniscule amount of slide grease on the slides and apply with your finger until they go on fairly easily, but don't cake on.
Put one drop of valve oil in the valves when you replace and hold upsidedown for 5 minutes while it applies. It should be okay after this.
But again, taking it in once a year is best.
Reply:If the slides are stuck, take them to a professional. You can seriously damage the slides if you try to take them out yourself. There are special chemicals repairmen use to pull out stuck slides:)
I suggest you pick up a beginner's method book, which includes finger charts and pictures and diagrams of everything you need to know to get started.
They're only $10 at the MOST. You can find them at any music store.
If you can, get some private lessons to get started the first few months. Talk to your school's band director or go to the local music shop.
Good luck!
Reply:These two should work

Help with trumpet skills?
OK, so I've been playing trumpet for about a year and a half. I'm first chair, so I've been getting all the high notes and every time I practice, during some part of the song, my lips will hurt and I start to die out, or go from buzzing to blowing or go from right note to messing up, how can I keep up, better yet, what should I practice to improve? Were playing songs like Semper Fidelis. So what do you think?
Help with trumpet skills?
I play trombone and I was first chair, when we did chairs, but I still play 1st part. I had that problem in 7th grade....right after beginning band. I could hit the high notes, but afterwhile, my lips would hurt and I would die out. All I can say is I kept practicing and playing with my band, and it is all better now. I'm an 8th grader. Just keep practicing what you always do, but do long...steady tones on high notes when you practice...don't forget the belly breath!
Reply:sounds like your lips are getting tired. what would help you build some endurance is long tones. practice long tones on a scale to help build endurance. pick a scale which you find reasonably challenging and practice going up and down the scale. if you start to get too tired playing the scale, then switch to a lower scale to practice, or take a break for a few minutes and come back to practicing after a short break.

Macarthur Park Trumpet sheet music?
Hey, does anyone know where i can get a free download of the trumpet sheet music to Macarthur park? I would prefer the Maynard Ferguson version if that's possible.
Macarthur Park Trumpet sheet music?
I have it. I can email it to you. Private message me your email if interested.
Reply:I don't think that exists for free. If it is any help it starts A A A A Bb A G F A. Its in concert Eb. The JMU marching Band has a good arrangement on their website, listen to it, you should be able to figure it out out from that.
Reply:If you have to get the music to learn how to play it, you must pay. Of course, you could listen to the recording and learn it by ear, or better yet, transpose it yourself. That would really make you learn it well.

Is the trumpet hard to play?
im going to join in band 4 my skool and i dont know how to play the trumpet whatsoever all i want to know if its pretty easy
Is the trumpet hard to play?
its really hard at first, learning how to make a sound in the first place is really hard! but once you get used to it, its really easy, and lots of fun. all you need to learn is the chords and you'll be off making your own music at the click of a finger.
enjoy :)
Reply:Nothing worth doing is easy.
Ive been playing trumpet in a jazz band for 5 years now,and when i first started i acctually caught on pretty quick, i didnt find it too difficult, but i suppose it depends on the person.

Trumpet Problems!?
Well my brother is marching tomorrow and he decided to clean his trumpet, he washed it and let some mildy warm water inside it then flushed it out.... now he can't blow the trumpet please help!
Trumpet Problems!?
the valves are in wrong. look for the numbers on each and get them in the proper place. Next time do not take all 3 out at the same time. They can also be in backwards. listen for the click when you put them in.
Reply:I don't know what that one person is freaking out about, water is fine. But yeah, I agree, it is likely because the valves were put back in incorrectly.
Reply:umm...i used to play the trumpet, so my best advice is to see ur local music dealer or his band instructor, they might be able to fix this problem, good luck!
Reply:UUUAHHH you NEVER put water in a trumpet!!!! There are cleaners for that!!! CHILDREN WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? He probably also put it back together wrong. Lube it up with some valve oil, what's probably happening is the valves aren't matching up with the holes. Take it all apart again and make sure the tabs on the valves are going back in the slot properly. and oil it up a grip!

Trumpet or Drums?
i currently play trumpet in my concert band at school, but ever since i got my braces it has become significantly harder, and ive always been interested in percussion and beats, so... my question is should i stick it out with a B- in band playing trumpet or switch to percussion and see how that goes
thanks
Trumpet or Drums?
If it hurts that much then try the drums
Reply:Hey I say...take your chances! You can always go back to the trumpet if the percussion doesn't work out!
Reply:drums
Reply:if your having a lot of troble with the trumpet, try asking your conductor (or teacher) for help. if that doesnt work you could try swiching.

Trumpet snails?
when i looked in my tank today i saw a few baby trumpet snails does anyone know any info about trumpet snails
Trumpet snails?
if they ate Malaysian trumpet snails you have a few options.
you can leave them. malaysian trumpet snails are a "good snail" which will dig through the substrate and eat any uneaten food particles. by diging through the substrate the snails prevent and gas pockets from forming under the substrate (depending on the substrate)
you can try to remove the snails but you will never get them all. i would recomed a method to get rid of the snails. first put a piece of cuccumber or zuccini on the bottom of the tank and turn off the lights or cover the tank to prevent any light from coming in. after a bout an hour or two, turn the lights back on, and remove the zuccini which should be covered in snails, and pick the remaining off the glass.
MTS are a livebearing snail and will give birth to living snails that are very very small, so you will never get all the snails but you could try.
Reply:Well, I do not know much about snails, but just to warn you, I got some pet snails, only two, and they multiply fast!
Reply:yea get rid of them before they breed again
Reply:Ditto. Get rid of them asap. These little critters don't need a significant other to make more babies. They can do it all by themselves. Unless you love the idea of being overrun with thousands of these snails, you gotta pick 'em out as soon as you see 'em.

Is trumpet mobile prepaid good?
well i want to buy a prepaid mobile for me and well i went to radiocheck and told me that trumpet mobile is good is it? thnx
Is trumpet mobile prepaid good?
I live in a pretty big city and I have never heard of it. Go with like the go phone from ATT or Verizon Prepaid because those are the big companies... they are more reliable.
Reply:YES! Trumpet Mobile is a great prepaid wireless service. I've had it for about a year now. They run on the Sprint network so they are very reliable. You can buy it at RadioShack. They have a loyalty program so you get FREE airtime and sometimes they make offers for discounted airtime too. It's a good deal.

Getting back into trumpet for college?
Hi,
I am planning on playing trumpet at A%26amp;M but, problem is that I haven't played trumpet in 3 years (i played trumpet three years before this break) . However, I have talked to the people in charge of the band and they say that I will be able to make the musical requirements if I started playing again now and take lessons. My question is, what trumpet should I buy to play and march with and what can I do to prepare myself for my first lesson so that no time is waisted?
Getting back into trumpet for college?
you should post this under the MUSIC section where there would be people possibly more qualified to answer. I played percussion, cello, classical guitar and violin in school. Glad you're getting back into it. There is nothing better in this world than being involved with music! Good Luck! (Wish I could help, but all I can say is buy the best you can afford and start practicing now in preparation for your first lesson- and take lessons from the best you can afford!)
Reply:You'll be fine! I say you start practicing now to get your chops back in shape. Work on scales and just sight-read some music to dust off the mental cobwebs.
As for instrument brand, for marching, anything NOT intermediate or professional is best. Just find an old junker that plays and use it--the weather conditions, the method of use and abuse, the chances of getting it damaged are all to risky to use a concert trumpet during marching season.
Get the junker now, and when you go into lessons, ask about what instrument the professor recommends. Your first lesson is basically going to be discussion of goals, assessment of skill level, and what method books you need to buy. Most likely, you won't do much playing the first lesson.
Just ask your professor!
Reply:Start practicing everyday (start with just 15 to 30 minutes and gradually increase your time). Play scales (if you don't already know all your major scales, maybe try learning them. You'll have to in your private lessons anyway!!). Get a good method book and just do a lot of review. Once you start your lessons, your teacher will give you exactly what to work on.
As for trumpets to buy... just get something cheap until you start lessons. You don't want to buy just anything and you'll want to try out different trumpets and mouthpieces to find the one that's right for you. Make sure your private teacher is really involved in helping you find the right trumpet.
Good luck! My husband (a trumpet player and band %26amp; orchestra teacher) and I were just talking about how he had a three year break between playing his trumpet and starting up again as a music major in college. He sad he only had a week before auditions and he was pretty rusty, but the professors were really understanding and he did really well that semester... and on! He now has a master's degree in music, teaches, and is in a few professional groups. The moral of my story... don't get discouraged by your rusty chops. It'll come back. You can do it! :)
Reply:Go to Scimonneti.com. Purchase a Blessing begginer trumpet. $300, have one work great does an awesome job.

Are trumpet pistons interchangeable from one trumpet to another?
I have a trumpet, the pistons have some scratches and some dings around the holes. The inside of the valve looks OK. Can I buy new pistons and put them in the old trumpet? Or can pistons be polished or repaired?
Are trumpet pistons interchangeable from one trumpet to another?
Trumpet pistons are only interchangeable between trumpets of the exact same manufacturer, model, bore size, and vintage -- and even then, it can be iffy. The pistons from a brand-new ML bore Bach Stradivarius will probably fit another brand-new ML bore Bach Stradivarius, but they'll never fit a Schilke or a Conn.
That said, it is possible to have your existing pistons ground and re-plated, assuming that the damage is only limited to scratches and dings on the plating. You should definitely take your horn to the best repair tech in your area and get an estimate, beacuse a bad valve repair job will ruin the horn. If this is a valuable instrument, consider sending it to one of the major restoration shops, like Osmun Music in Boston or Dillon Music in NJ. (The Osmun website will give you an idea of how much it could cost.)
Reply:I would have picked this answer and given it 5 stars but the Voters beat me to it. Anyway, great answer.
Thank you, The Asker Report It
Reply:I don't know for sure, but I say go to a local college and see if you can have a student (for instrument fabrication %26amp; repair) try and help you for less money than a professional and if you're lucky, as good of quality.
My sister fainted at our Memorial Day service last year and actually fell on her trumpet (eek...) and our band director's nephew fixed it for her. It's only got a gash in it now, but it still plays good!

Which Brand of Trumpet is Good?
I'm planning to buy a new trumpet
i have played the trumpet for about 3 years
i want to buy a good trumpet but im not sure which brand or which models of trumpet are good
i heard that Conn, Bach, and Yamaha are best sellers
Can anyone recommend a good brand and a model?
Which Brand of Trumpet is Good?
For classical music, go with the Bach Stradivarius, Conn Vintage or Monette.
For jazz, maybe Leblanc, Monette or Schilke.
With any good instrument, you really have to go try them out yourself to see if it's what you like. Good luck!

Good trumpet mute for indoor use?
I am looking to buy a trumpet mute for my friend who can only practice in her apartment. Any recommendations on what kind of mute would be good for indoor use, and possible brands too?
Good trumpet mute for indoor use?
Harmon mutes (think buzzing "Miles Davis" sound) are good because they mute the sound, but are used widely at gigs. I prefer, however, the Bubble Mute by JoRal. It sounds like a Harmon, but is easier to play and stays in tune better. Stone Lined also makes straight mutes, practice mutes and cup mutes. Yamaha has a "Silent Brass" system that is good for practicing, but I find it hard to practice with (you listen to the sound through headphones). Most music stores will have what you need, but for the long term investment, go with the Harmon/Bubble mute.

Best trumpet mouthpiece ?
what is the best trumpet mouthpiece for me? i have a b flat horn. i play jazz. i typically want to play in the upper register but i want it to give me a nice warm tone. i am thinking about getting a 3c bach megatone mouthpiece. is that a good mouthpiece for what i am looking for. if not please list the mouthpieces you recommend for me.
thanks~oscar
thanks
Best trumpet mouthpiece ?
Jet-Tone BC-1 (BC stands for Bill Chase).
You'll be able to play in the upper register with very little effort. Unfortunately Jet tone does not make the BC-1 any more -- they make a VBC-1 (V for vintage), and it is a millimeter larger in outer diameter than the original BC-1.
I play a Bach 7C and a VBC-1. My brother (who is the real pro trumpet player) plays a BC-1 almost exclusively. I cannot play a Back 3B or 3C for some reason.
.
Reply:I also agree that a Bach is the only way to good. I play on a 2c but spent a long time playing on a 3c. I have never played on a megatone, I'm not sure that its worth the extra money.
Reply:We all agree that Bach is the way to go. The 3C or 3D, either one, would certainly do the trick. I do agree with the previous respondant that the "D" would potentially result in a bit more mellow tone. You can't go too far wrong either way.
Reply:Get the 3d bach megatone mouthpiece. Its more warmer which is what you want. Trust me its GOOOOD.
Reply:i play alot of jazz, and i personnally enjosy playing on a bach 1 1/2 c
Reply:I use a 3c Bach trumpet mouth piece. All I know is that its better than a King 7c mouth piece.

Playing Trumpet in the Military or something....?
Hi! I heard about a band instructor who played trumpet in the Military band and got to travel all over the world. I was wondering, how good do you have to be, what education do you need, do you get paid, and how old must you be? Thank you very oh-so-very much!
Kia
Playing Trumpet in the Military or something....?
Well to play an instrument in the Army, you have a 'try out' and if you get 'selected', you then go on to basic training, and AIT. The band can go pretty much anywhere.
Usually not bad working hours.. Though you may have to play on the big holidays... like xmas.. That's not everyplace you go..
My friends wife is in the Army band and has been for over 10 years now.. She loves it. She has seen the whole world for the most part!
Good luck.. It's def. worth looking into!!!

Reply:Yup...most of the question was answered by the previous poster. About the only thing he missed was whether or not you get paid...and the answer to that is...yes. You do get paid. The band members are still soldiers, and as such, they follow the same payscale as every other soldier. The pay charts are listed on www.dfas.mil. The age requirements would be the same as the rest of the army also, I would imagine. 17 through 35 I think is the age bracket for initial enlistment.
Reply:we are talking Professional Level Musicians here.. MINIMUM \Bachelor's degrees and to be really competitive, a Masters degree in Performance. you have to first convince them to grant you an audition before you can even begin the process.
all other military rules and regs apply as far as age and such.
Reply:Another cool thing is, you automatically get bumped to E4 specialist. I went to BCT with a guy that was going into the Army Band, and he was paid E4 the whole time, a 17 year old E4. He said it's harder to get promoted in that field though (so he was told) so expected to stay an E4 for a while.
Reply:All branches of the military have bands. You will need to interview to see if you have the skills you need. Promotions are slow but you get to do lots of traveling.

But if you want to play it, you should probably try to search it on Google, Yahoo, etc. and it will probably take you a while to find it. Then, you've got to worry about paying for it. Well, good luck anyway.

Jazz Trumpet Begginer?
I've just started playing trumpet, In how much time will i be able to make a nice jazz improvisation?
Jazz Trumpet Begginer?
First of all, congrats on taking up the trumpet. It is a instrument that is awesome to play, regardless of the style.
In regards to the jazz improv, it all depends on how much your willing to put into it. Do you have a musical background at all? I ask this because if order to do awesome improv you'll need to know about key signatures and scales. The easiest way to know what notes to play during a solo is playing the correct scale.
For example, let's say that the song is in C Major and it's blues. You would want to play the B flat blues scale (C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb, C). Also, a basic first trick is you use the root, 3rd, 5th, and Octave of the scale. By sticking to just a few notes, you able to still have a cool sounding solo without having to worrry about playing all of the notes in the scale. When your feeling ready, it's easy just to add in some notes.
Another suggestion i have is to listen to as much jazz as you can stand. By listening to other people's solos, you develop a bag or tricks from which you can pull from when you're performing. You'll be listening to a song and the artist will do something really cool that will make you stop and say, "woah, that was sweet!" Take your horn, try to play along, figure it out, learn the rhythm, etc.
Yet another way when improvising is ti play the melody but spice it up. Add an extra note here and there and play with the timing a bit. By playing the melody only different, (just like some of the written solos you will come across) it will sound like it's just another part of the song.
Good luck to you, stick with the trumpet and the jazz, and may you become a great improv master. Brass Power Baby!

Ebay price help on trumpet?
i have a trumpet ytr 4335. i bought it in 03 for $1,200.It is silver plated. I used it for 3 years but it is in very good condition. The case is worn though, there are scratches, and paint on the case that i don't know how it got on there, but it did during the 3 years. The trumpet itself plays great, there are few barely noticeble scratches on it, maybe 1 or 2 small (very small) dents. they aren't big at all. My dad says to sell it on ebay for no less than $700, but I dont know what people will pay. How much should I ask for it?

there have been many occasions where i can do things on my trumpet i was never able to do....m highest note so far is double G but sometimes i find myself able to hit the C above that or i can play it louder or clearer than usual....is there any particular reason

It could be that you are more relaxed at those times. When you play higher dont really think about how high you are going to go think about going higher, if that makes sense.

I have a jupiter trumpet and got a new mouthpiece HELP?
Do you have to have the same brand of mouth piece as the trumpet i have jupeter trumpet and a blessing mouthpiece does it matter
I have a jupiter trumpet and got a new mouthpiece HELP?
i've been playing trumpet for 6 years and in all my experiance i ve never had a problem with different brand mouthpieces. it doesn't matter what brand of mouthpiece. they're all a standard size.
if you got any more ?'s, e-mail me
dunker150@yahoo.com
Reply:It doesn't matter at all that they don't match up. What matters more is that neither of them are very good. If you end up progressing satisfactorily on the trumpet you may want to consider purchasing a better mouthpiece (maybe a Bach which is what the Blessing is based on, and in time a new trumpet.

What trumpet case should I buy ?
I just bought an Olds Ammbasador Trumpet. It's a '68 model, with the original case. So I decided to get a new case. There are so many out there, Which one do you recomend buying.
What trumpet case should I buy ?
Are you planning to use the trumpet frequently, like in a band? Or are you in an orchestra? I can't tell you which one to buy, but get some good advice from your local school's band teacher. They get fliers up the wazoo. Kids can be pretty hard on the cases.
Another option would be your local music store. If it is a small town you may have to order. But in a small town everybody is more conscious about what people have to spend and recommend accordingly. If you live around a big metropolis, you have many options and stores. Talk to the sales people and get their opinion and take it from there.
Good luck.
Reply:I can understand why you asked, crawling the web for just the cases is very frustrating. Thanks. Report It

The Trumpet Player [a poem]?
The Trumpet Player
Floating through a dream
I hear a sound
It draws me toward the light
I feel I have been found
It sings a gently melody
Sensuous yet sad
It orchestrates my feelings
And slowly drives me mad

Looking for a good trumpet mute?
Can anyone help me pick a good mute for a promising, commited young trumpet player? I saw a Denis Wick Practice Mute on musiciansfriend.com for $30. Is that a good brand for a good price? If not, I hope a trumpet player sees this question and can give me some advice.
Thank you in advance to any and all answers.
Looking for a good trumpet mute?
The mute you have mentioned is a Practice Mute. This is a very, very soft mute that people generally use when they need to practice in a place where they can't make a lot of noise, like in an apartment. It wouldn't be much use in band.
The first mute that I would recommend for a student would be a Straight Mute. It is the most commonly used mute in band and orchestral music. The next mute to get would be a Cup Mute.
My preference for a Straight Mute is one made by the Tom Crown Mute Co. They are the most "in tune" mutes around. Many mutes make a trumpet go sharp, but not Tom Crown's. They also come in a variety of metals. My second choice would be one by Denis Wick. For Cup Mutes my preference would be the adjustable cup Cup Mute by Denis Wick. You can move the cup towards or away from the bell by sliding the cup back and forth.
A big company like the Woodwind Brasswind would have a large selection to look at. You can find them at www.wwbw.com.
Good luck and I hope that helps.
Reply:I was a trumpet player for a while, actually played professionally for a few years. I would go with the Harmon B model Aluminum wah-wah mute at the link below. With the stem all the way in, you can get a wah-wah sound,. The stem can be pulled any distance out, or completely out to change the tone. You often hear this mute in solo trumpet passages in jazz orchestras. Eventually you'll need a straght and cup mute, but the Harmn offers the most versatility for the money, and with the stem out, it's pretty quiet.

What's the Best Trumpet?
I am looking to buy a Trumpet. I am looking for the best trumpet for a good price.
What's the Best Trumpet?
If you're looking for a truly wonderful trumpet, the Martin Co's Committee model trumpet, pre-1966. Those were the trumpets of choice of guys like Miles Davis and Chet Baker. It was and still is the sound of greatness. Considering what your price range is, you can find one in decent shape that needs minimal work on E-bay for under $1000.
Reply:I have a Bach Stradivarius 72/43 lightweight and I love it. I have had it for almost 20 years and it works great. I would recommend Bach.

Yamaha Trumpet Mouthpiece?
I recently bought a Yamaha Xeno Trumpet and with it came a really nice mouthpiece that I'd rather not use. I'm interested in selling but not sure how much I could get for it on a site like Ebay.
Specs: Yamaha Custom 16-C4-GP-- Gold Plated Rim
I haven't used it.. i think it was used previously to try out the instrament... not sure though.. Either Way it looks brand new
Yamaha Trumpet Mouthpiece?
Usually a stock mouthpiece that comes with a trumpet won't sell for very much on a site like eBay. Unless you have a friend that wants to buy the mpc from you, I would hold on to it.
You'll be glad you have that 16C4 some day when you or a student of yours wants to try playing on different equipment.
Reply:It will probably go for about $40.
I don't really think that people would buy that mouthpiece on ebay because i just looked and there are much more mouthpieces than that. Don't be scared to use it. I have a really good mouthpiece but I always use it because it looks better on my silver trumpet.

What's your favourite Trumpet music book?
I'm a grade 6 / 7 trumpet player ( but only in S4 so the only people near me in orchestra are 2 or 3 years older and scary! ), but my local store has a limited section of trumpet books at that level and was wondering if anyone has suggestions of interesting but challenging books that are worth spending money on?

Stuck Trumpet Mouthpiece- HELP!?
My son came home from school with his mouthpiece stuck in his trumpet. His teacher tried the mechanical puller (that little leverage device). We've also tried hot water to no avail. The mouthpiece is still stuck fast.
How the heck can we get it out?
Thanks!
Stuck Trumpet Mouthpiece- HELP!?
DON'T TRY!
If the music teacher had a mouthpiece puller and it didn't work--then there is nothing you can do, and if you try, you may damage the instrument and wind up with a worse repair bill than you already have.
Take this thing to a music store that has an authorized repair department. Now, it's possible that your boy's music teacher just didn't use the mouthpiece puller properly--and in that case, you'll get the job done for little cost and you'll have it back almost immediately in most shops. Otherwise, they'll have to use some special techniques that are not for the amateur--and you'll be out a bit more cash.
But either of those scenarios is far better than having to pay big bucks for the music repair shop to weld together the big split in the tubing, or remove the dents, or re-solder the joints that you pulled apart.
Reply:thank you i will try Report It
Reply:take it to a music store and see if they can get it out. just dont try to get it out yourself! you could cause more damage to the horn.
Reply:try twisting it....a lot
Reply:as was said - go to the shop with it. There are different types of puller and most mouthpieces will come out with a bench mounted heavy duty one (which band directors don't have).
If it won't come out with a puller, the shop will have to take that part of the tubing off and .... money. The way this happens to the horn is that it falls hard on the mouthpiece. Normally, stuck is no big deal.
If you attempt pliers, twisting, etc... you will break the joint on that tubing and it will cost you more than if you had just gone to the shop.

Wien trumpet, any information on this????
old trumpet...says instrumenten-fabrik ANTDEHMAL on it
Wien trumpet, any information on this????
If this is a trumpet on the internet (ebay or other auctioning engine) do not waste your time with it. There has been scams where people in other countries hand make trumpets/horns and sell them for very low prices, but shipping costs are immense. Normally those horns have very bad responses on them. They are illmade and are worthless. If you have one in your possesion, you should send me a pic, with a close up of the model, and maybe I can tell you something about them.

Good Trumpet Music CDs?
Hoping someone can help me. I want to get 6-8 cd's of famous trumpet players. I want to send this to my husband who is currently deployed in Iraq right now so he has something soothing and relaxing (as much as he can while there) to listen to.
I would like to know name of person and cd to buy him. Thanks so much. And if possible only trumpet music. He loves himself some good trumpet music.
Thanks in advance in helping me.

Reply:For good relaxing trumpet music, I'd recommend Chris Botti's "When I Fall In Love" and some of the music of Chet Baker (he was a prolific recording artist so look for ones where he primarily plays trumpet unless you don't mind him singing as well).
Among the jazz trumpet classics, I'd recommend finding the "Compact Jazz" series (a sort of "greatest hits") featuring the following artists: Clifford Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bix Beiderbecke.
Other "classic" albums would be those of Miles Davis (Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, Milestones) and Louis Armstrong (The Hot 5 and Hot 7 recordings).
Reply:Italia by Chris Botti. It's more of the relaxing/romatic type of music.Listening to his music almost made me feel like I was in Italy.
Reply:Louie Armstrong, Dizzie Gillespie, can't really think of anything else.

Is Trumpet Jade the same thing as Hobbit Crassula?
I was looking for the name of a plant and I've been given two plant names with accompanying photos that look like the correct plant: The first is Trumpet Jade, which I saw was associated with the word "Gollum." The second is Crassula Ovata or "Hobbit." So... are these plants the same species? What is actual scientific name? What is the most accepted common name? Are "Gollum" and "Hobbit" interchangable in regaurds to this plant? Thanks.
Is Trumpet Jade the same thing as Hobbit Crassula?
Gollum and Hobbit are probably cultivar names. I don't know much about how the cultivar naming system works, since all of my herbarium experience is with wild plants. Hobbit and Gollum are most likely two slightly different cultivars of the Trumpet Jade...
Reply:C.ovata also known as Crassula portulacea called jade plant, jade tree. the other one Trumpet Jade I presume you mean Trollius species. No I don't think they're interchangeable, why don't you try contacting RHS.

Braces + Trumpet?
I have braces at the moment and I know my general range and sound will change on the trumpet along with reteaching my lips. My questions are will my articulations change? Also will my range increase or decrease?
My articulation is actually pretty terrible in my opinion.
As of now my range without petal tones is (Low G flat -%26gt; C-(3 octaves above mid C))
Braces + Trumpet?
Articulations:
It will be harder to accent, but staccato will be alright. Slurring will be fine, as long as you can endure the pressure. It comes with time.
Range:
Your range WILL decrease. It happened to me. You have an incredible range, I have to say... sadly my range right now is low G and two octaves higher than that.
Just practice so that you can keep your range and overall skill. It is going to be hard to adjust in the beginning... but honestly, it depends on the person. For me, it was hard. :P
Reply:You will have a very, very hard time playing any and everything once you get your braces removed. It is imperative that you keep your mouthpiece completely centered on your chops and keep your horn angle parallel. I have seen so many cases where the removal of braces has caused the mouthpiece to become improperly positioned on the lips causing even more damage. As long as you practice properly and play long low tones your range will come back in a short amount of time.
Reply:I heard that if you learn to play the trumpet with braces, then after you get the braces removed you will be able to play much more easily.

Do you play the trumpet with INVISALIGN?
Okay, so for those who DO, you would understand.
But for those who don't, Invisalign is a newer version of braces for your teeth, in that you have specially fitted mouth-guard-like plastic that tightly covers your teeth, perfectly fitting each tooth. Fitting your teeth in a way that will realign them over time (about 1.5 - 2 years). Instead of getting braces, which would result in painful and difficult trumpet playing, I would like to get Invisalign.
For those who have it, please give me an honest assessment of how you feel playing trumpet with the plastic on, as I intend NOT to take them off whilst playing.
Thanks.
Guy
Do you play the trumpet with INVISALIGN?
Just like you can play brass instruments with traditional braces, you can play trumpet with Invisalign. But since you have the ability to remove them during playing sessions...why not? How much do you play? Unless the bulk of your day is consumed with playing trumpet, a few minutes, to a couple hours will not make a huge difference. Good Luck
Reply:f I were you, I would just remove them for your practice sessions only. As long as you keep them on during the night, it won't matter.

What kind of trumpet should I get.?
I currently own a Bach Stradivarius, and I have a really bad Blessing Trumpet. I leave the Blessing trumpet at school and use it there. I want to buy a fairly priced but good sounding horn, Ive been looking into buying a Olds Super or other type of Olds Trumpet. What is the best olds trumpet I should get, if not what kind should I get.
What kind of trumpet should I get.?
if you have a bach 37,43, or 72 keep it!
i own a bach 37 and its the best horn i've ever played.
well you wouldn't need to buy a new trumpet unless you are thinking about being a major in that.
olds are good and trusted.
if you really think about it and don't want to buy another Bb trumpet, buy a C trumpet. It will be very useful but then again if you really don't need it, don't waste your money!
i bought my first trumpet for $600, it was a selmer.
then i bought a cornet for $500, it was a selmer.
i didn't really need a cornet so i wasted $500 that i could have used to buy my Bach Stradivarius 37 for $2000.
try not to waste your money.
Reply:Why do you want a new one? Aren't the Bach Strads the best?? my brother has a silver one and it couldnt be better. I have an Olds tho... but unless yours has a defect I'd keep it.

How many trumpet's?
In revelation, how many trumpets are blown and what do they signify, also if there are 7 trumpets, but yet when the last trumpet is blown doesn't that one represents the RAPTURE, and if so what about the first 6 trumpet's what do they represent?
How many trumpet's?
This is a GREAT question!
The second trumpet that signals the Rapture refers to a different part of the Bible altogether; it has nothing to do with the trumpet judgments, but goes all the way back to Numbers 10 in the OT.
There, you will see that God ordained that Moses oversee the making of two trumpets for the calling in of the "congregation," and the "movement of the camps."
When only the one/ first trumpet was blown, they were to gather towards Moses (i.e, the law.)
But when the last/ second trumpet was ALSO sounded (both at once) they were to gather to the "...door of the tabernacle of meeting" (i.e., the place of God's presence - His grace - among His people.)
And what/ where is this "tabernacle of meeting" today? It is Christ our Lord Himself!
Hebrews 9:11 "But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation." (How can a tabernacle be "not made with hands?" It is like when Jesus is prophesied in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream in Daniel 2:34 as the "stone not cut by hands." Jesus, the uncreated one - God incarnate! Our holy tabernacle/ house!)
Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God."
Reply:The Book of Revelation is a disgraceful stupid book---shame on the committee of Roman Catholic Bishops who narrowly voted it into Canon Law in 325 AD!!!!
Reply:Six means wait scythian sword is ready to come on your head.
Reply:I have a good book for you to read,it's called
" Revelation At Hand and It's Climax"
It will explain each scripture in Revelations and what they mean. It's free no charge or catches or obligations and it's new. I give them to very serious Avatar members.
Sincerely yours,

Revelation 8 (New King James Version)
Revelation 8
Seventh Seal: Prelude to the Seven Trumpets
1 When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. 3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.
6 So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
First Trumpet: Vegetation Struck
7 The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth.[a] And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.
Second Trumpet: The Seas Struck
8 Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. 9 And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
Third Trumpet: The Waters Struck
10 Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
Fourth Trumpet: The Heavens Struck
12 Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
13 And I looked, and I heard an angel[b] flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”
Revelation 9
Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit
1 Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. 3 Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.
7 The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. 8 They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. 9 And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. 10 They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.
12 One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things.
Sixth Trumpet: The Angels from the Euphrates
13 Then the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind. 16 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed—by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19 For their power[a] is in their mouth and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm.
20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries[b] or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
Revelation 11
Seventh Trumpet: The Kingdom Proclaimed
15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms[f] of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“ We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
The One who is and who was and who is to come,[g]
Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”
19 Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant[h] was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail.

Reply:I have a good book for you to read,it's called
" Revelation At Hand and It's Climax"
It will explain each scripture in Revelations and what they mean. It's free no charge or catches or obligations and it's new. I give them to very serious Avatar members.

Saxophone or trumpet in the marching band?
Im going to go to my school band next year. I'm going to play the xylophones for the marching band (becuase I have been playing the piano for four years and the notes and keys are the same so why not?). BUt I also want to start another instrument. More specifically, the trumpet or the alto saxophone. These two are for sure. I heard that it is hard to play the trumpet because of the embochure and that you have to change the pitch for every single note. Also, I heard that your mouth gets all cracked up and nasty (I still want to keep making-out with girls)! However for the saxophone, you have to memorize ALOT of keys! I also heard that vibrating the reed is hard (the reed can also get moldy). Once I get good enough with one of these instruments I will leave the xylophones and go to oeither the trumpet or the alto sax for marching band. I really don't care about the weight so I don't need help on that. But which one is easier to play? I like the sax but the sound of the trumpet is better.
Saxophone or trumpet in the marching band?
Ugg, stop listening to other people. They spread all the myths that are not true.
First off, I will tell you that if you enjoy music and think you may consider it as a college degree, stick with one instrument. Yes, learning other instruments is fun and a nice talent, but think of it this way. You have 100% of your energy to devote to instruments. Would it be better to devote 100% to one instrument, or 50% to two separate instruments? Along with that, consider that most of the people you would be in college with did devote 100% of their time to a certain instrument. I regret that I spent so much time playing other instruments than my principle instrument because I am weaker on that then I should be at this point, and all the other instruments I play are not as good either. I could be a much more advanced player if I didn't also work on playing clarinet, flute, piano, and all the other instruments I play (over 10).
That being said, both the trumpet and saxophone have different challenges. The saxophone is the easiest instrument TO START but is the longest to actually get good at (above a middle school/high school level). The trumpet is harder to learn in the beginning, but easier after that. With trumpet, yes, you have to adjust your embouchure, but not for every note. For each section (middle C to F, G to B, C to E, and then it continues. These are the average sections, some people have different sections) you adjust your embouchure, and then the valves of the trumpet make the adjustment to another pitch. Unless you are playing a non-valved trumpet (which is only done by very few professionals) you don't have to worry about constant embouchure adjustments. Also, once you learn to do that, it isn't hard to do it. You just do it naturally. Just like you play the piano a certain way, it was hard when you started, and then it was easier. Yes, your lips will crack, when your lips get chapped. Take care of them just like you do now, and you should be fine. I've known many trumpet players and I've never seen them be more chapped of lips than anyone else. Also, the fingerings for trumpets do not stay the same on each octave for each note. It changes in there, and you have to memorize that.
Yes, the saxophone has many keys. But each note (e.g. G) fingers the same for each octave just adding or removing the octave key (thumb). There are a few notes that have a different finger on the extreme low end or extreme high end, but you worry about those after you learn the majority of the range of the instrument. Vibrating the reed is not hard at all. I've gotten my three-year-old niece and adopted brother to do it, and my sister when she was that age 14 years ago too. If they can do it, so can you. If a saxophonist lets a reed get moldy, they are doing an awful job of caring for their instrument. I've been playing for 18 years and I have yet to have a moldy reed. I've had probably 1000 reeds in that time.
Whichever instrument you choose, get a private lesson teacher. Each instrument comes with it's own challenges, and self-teaching yourself does not teach you how to play correctly. You can play, but if you want to actually be any good at the instrument, a teacher will teach you correct ways to play, and go a long way in preventing bad habits. Consider that a good amount of the people in the marching band with you will have private lesson teachers, and will continue to excel and learn more while you stay stagnant and at a lower level. As is most of these players will be much higher skill than you are already, and if you don't take lessons, they will be heads and shoulders above you.
Reply:Hmmm, tough desicion, do you have any friends that play one or the other, b/c it would be best, if you could try them before choosing.
The sax: First of all, the reed won't get moldly, it would break before it got moldy, because they break easily.
The trumpet: You don't have to adjust you're lips, for every note, but pretty often. Just think there is 3 buttons, to make just as many notes as the clarinet makes with over 30 buttons.
Either way, you have to rember lots of notes, it''s just on sax you just rember which of the many buttons, and and with trumpet you rember which of the 3 buttons, and which of the many mouth emochures.
I personally think the trumpet would be harder to learn, because you have to listen carefully to make sure you're playing the right note (ex. G and C have the same fingering, but you tighten your lips more, to play the G)
But, it's up to you...
Hope this helps!!!
Reply:Personally, I'd say Sax.Memorizing the keys are actually very simple.Learn a few keys at a time and practice, and you'll have it.You'll notice that all the keys repeating themselves, just with some side key or the octave key(makes notes higher)`A to make it a step higher. All reeds mold,or "warp".But If you are using reeds up quickly, its from good practice. When playing, try to swallow all saliva and don't eat or drink. Its messes up the reed super fast!Oh, and as the one above me said with the trumpet you have to change embouchure a little.Same thing with the sax.
Or If you want to play trumpet..Can't help you there.Sorry, but if you play sax ask me anything!
By the way, they are both sexy instruments to pick up girls! XD
Reply:If you play the trumpet, you take a vow of celibacy. You cannot make out with anything other than the trumpet. Otherwise your lips will fall of and die. Then you can't do either. However, it is well worth the sacrifice. And you can always throw acid on saxophones to make them explode.
Reply:Hey WATS up i kinda went trough that also so i think i might be able to help you...when i entered my freshman year to high school i was playing clarinet before that but i decided to do trumpet for fun(I knew it was not going to be hard)and it turned out to be really fun and i learned alot because of it i joined a drum corp if you have ever heard of that.we competed in drum corp international,DCI,i met lots of new people, its pretty cool its a pure brass horn line so it sound awesome.i really encourage you to try trumpet trust me its worth it. its not easy but when you learn everything is fun to play.TRUST ME.im a junior now. and im actually really good at it. so give it a try and practice alot.
want to see what deum corp is check this out on youtube or goolge.(blue devils 2007, the cavaliers 2002, phantom regiment 2007, and if you can the one i was on, Modesto Fever 2007 field show.)
Reply:If you go with the sax (good choice) you can always try a good plastic reed like Legere. They may not be as good as a regular reed for concert solos, but in a band section you can not tell the difference, they never crack or split, and they do not need to be kept wet. Only factor is the cost (8 to 16 dollars each, depending on quality) but they well last much longer.

A question for trumpet players:?
I recently started playing the trumpet and i'm having trouble forcing the air to come out. I used to play the tenor saxaphone, so you don't need as much air as you do for the trumpet. For the while that I've been playing it, my throat is really hurting because i think I'm forcing the air through my throat. my question is.. how do you PROPERLY BREATHE and produce air without hurting your throat??
A question for trumpet players:?
I've been playing and teaching trumpet for many years, here's what I think.
There are two things going on. One, you need to keep your throat relaxed and should not have any tension. This could be caused on it's own or in combination with another problem. And that is I think you might be clamping you upper and lower lip together. This is a common embrochure on reed instruments, but a killer for brass players. You want to have a small opening between your lips so that air can easily flow through. I would imagine that your sound is kind of pinched sounding as well. Pull your lips apart, relax, take a deep low breath and blow while buzzing. Open up just enough to improve air flow and sound.
When you breath pull air into only the lower portion of your lungs and then exhale with an open throat. Have you ever blown air onto glass to make it fog up. Same type of feeling, you want warm moist air. I hope you enjoy the trumpet.
Reply:The problem isn't that you are forcing air through your throat, the problem is that you are tensing-up your throat and raising your larynx (wind pipe). Similar to singing, when playing, the muscles in your throat need to be relaxed so that air can flow freely through your larynx (wind pipe). The air flow really isn't different, it is just the embouchure (the shape of your lips in order to play your instrument) which is different. Changing from a woodwind instrument to a soprano brass instrument, like trumpet, may seem different or harder seeing as you no longer have a reed to vibrate for you because your lips are now doing the buzzing that your reed was doing while you were playing tenor sax.
A suggestion is to practice buzzing on your mouthpiece without the instrument in order to get used to buzzing without tensing-up your throat muscles and raising your larynx (wind pipe). If you are a singer, I suggest you do this immediately so that it won't damage your ability to sing.

Anyone play the trumpet after having tonsils out?
I am having my tonsils out in April. I play trumpet professionally and wonder how long it will be before I can play again. Any trumpet players out there who had their tonsils out? How long till I will be able to play again and will I need to adjust my air flow?
Anyone play the trumpet after having tonsils out?
I tried to play trombone for a band concert 5 days after my tonsilectomy. It didn't work so well, sounded bad, hurt bad, and I ended up not playing.
I'd say after two weeks you'd be fine. My recovery was really slow, and I could eat without a lot of pain after 10 days. One thing I can tell you is that movement of the soft pallate is severly restricted for a while, and that might cause some problems.
Reply:Because you do use some throat muscles to play it might be a couple of weeks. I would let your doctor know that you play the trumpet, and ask him how long it should take to heal. You don't want to break open the stitches from playing. When I had my wisdom teeth out it was about a week till I could start playing my flute again, and then they suggested for only short periods each day for about a week.
Reply:I believe that is an answer your doctor should have. There is no reason I can see why that would cause you to stop playing the trumpet. What does having, or not having tonsils do with playing trumpet? Don't you play with your lips? Just ask your doctor.

Is there any trumpet thats bad to buy?
i am thinking about playing the trumpet and i really like the black ones, and they are under 200 bucks, is that bad? what is wrong with "junk" trumpets, what makes them so bad?
Is there any trumpet thats bad to buy?
the materials, bore sizes, bell sizes, stuff like that makes a good or bad trumpet. under 200 is probably not very good
Reply:there not bad if there metal
but plastic ones are garbage
Reply:junk trumpets lol
Reply:dont buy ones made of tissue paper, they fall apart

Should I upgrade to a professional trumpet?
I am a freshman in high school right now. I have been playing the B-flat trumpet for five straight years on a Yamaha YTR-2335 student trumpet. I have been 1st chair every year except this year (I am now 2nd). For the first time, I have started feeling that my instrument is holding me back and my tone especially doesn't compare with the 1st chair (not as rich or dark). I have tried everything to have a better tone (better embouchure, bigger breath, blowing from the diaphragm, controlled airflow), but nothing has really helped. Should I think about getting a professional trumpet? If so, what are recommendations for both the horn and the mouthpiece?
Should I upgrade to a professional trumpet?
you should get the same mouthpiece and a better, more expensie horn.
You'll be used to the mouth feel
Reply:I think that it was just a scar in your feelings when you found out that you weren't first.
No matter how good your instrument it, it's your lips that do the work.
Reply:as you get better on the trumpet, the horn you play actually makes a big difference. it sounds like you should get a new one. i would go for a bach with a 3c mouthpiece.

How can a Trumpet have to many pitches but only 3 buttons?
What do you call them?Buttons?
And do you use your fingers to make different pitches?I just love trumpets and want to know alot about them.I especially love jazz trumpet music
How can a Trumpet have to many pitches but only 3 buttons?
this will tell you all you need to know

Reply:There are two ways to the change the pitch. The first is, as you mentioned, buttons (which are called valves). These can be used in any combination to create different pitches. The other way to change pitch is through embouchure and air speed. The embouchure is the shape of the lips, which can be tightened or loosened to raise or lower the pitch. Also, players can open their mouths more to lower the pitch. By using faster or slower air, also the pitch is raised and lowered. By combining the valves and the embouchure/air, trumpets can plays a large range of notes.
Reply:Well there's technically 8 different fingerings on a trumpet (3rd finger is the same as 1st and 2nd.) But since the trumpet is a brass instrument, you buzz into the mouthpiece and depending on your embouchure muscles you can play different partials. The lowest partial of a trumpet ranges from F# (E concert, All three fingers down and the space two ledger lines below the staff) to C (Bb concert, open, one ledger line below the staff)
As you change your embouchure you can play different ranges. If you play open, you can play C, G, C, E, G, Bb, C all without moving your fingers, so that's how the trumpet has so many pitches despite having only three valves.
Hope this helps.
Reply:Think of it this way: trumpets existed before valves were invented (valves came about in the late 18th - early 19th century). Think of all those movies you've seen that take place in medieval times, when the trumpets were just long tubes with a flared bell, and you'll get the idea.
In the old days, you had trumpets with no valves- so the players would have to change their embrochure (how they pucker their lips) and air stream to get different notes. The notes they would get would based upon something called the overtone series, and that series can be derived using simple mathematical formulas.
(The overtone series, incidentally, is the fundamental basis behind the physics of just about all pitched musical instruments- trumpets, horns, pianos, flutes, guitars, violins, etc. are all pitched and tuned to a variant of this series.)
So when trumpets added valves, the valves merely expanded the range of notes a trumpet could play: instead of only playing the notes of a single determined overtone series, trumpets could now play the notes of other series based on which valves were pressed down.
Reply:I love the trumpet too! I play trumpet ,trombone ,flugelhorn and cornet! Since you love the trumpet I strongly advise you get the great 4 hour educational DVD by Warren Vache called "I Love The Trumpet" . It should be available on Amazon .com or warrenvache.com He is a great trumpet player and educator on all things trumpet. As for your question the "buttons" are called valve caps and move the valves to add different lengths of tubing for different notes on the trumpet. As I mentioned the DVD "I Love The Trumpet" will explain in video as well as words many more things about the great instrument that is the trumpet!! Reply:Ok, I've been playing trumpet for six years so hear ya go. The 'buttons' are called valves. They do have some importance, but most of the sound comes from the embouchre. Embouchre is a french word for how you shape your lips when you play. To play a higher pitch, you tighten your lips and arch your tongue up, to lower the pitch you loosen your lips and lower your tongue. Basically it. Any other questions just shoot me an email, ill get back to you.
Reply:overblowing, raises the pitch, im not sure by how much, i only played the trumpet for like a month but you just kind of tighten up the embouchure, i think...
Reply:Not only are there 3 buttons(valves), but you use your lips to alter the tone too.
Reply:harmonics with the mouth peice and using blowing techniques
Reply:its cause of the ombochure muscles.

Throat tense during trumpet playing?
when i play my trumpet and after i feel like i am tensing my throat too much does anyone know the proper way of producing higher notes with tensing my throat because i think i'm playing my trumpet wrong
Throat tense during trumpet playing?
I take lessons on euphonium and, although the instruments are quite different, I had the same problem.
My teacher constantly complained about this, and recommended using faster air; it truly works!
Don't be confused, however; do not use more air (like how you make notes louder), just increase the speed of air ( tightening up edges of lips is effective)
Reply:Tensing your throat is a natural thing to do when you're trying to hit higher notes. It is poor technique however and it can lead to squeeky sounds for higher notes since there is less air flowing through the throat.
You should be trying to use your diaphragm in you chest to hit the higher notes. In the same way a singer uses their diaphragm to project their voices. Its a bit tricky to explain in text but the best way to practice this technique is to breath out in short sharp breaths (without a trumpet); you should feel your chest contracting which means you are using your diaghragm. Then try it with the trumpet. Using it for the high notes takes alot of practice to overcome the bodies natural tendency to tighten the throat but it is the best technique.
Its hard to explain this correctly in text. You should talk to a trumpet teacher in person about it really so they can show you how to breath correctly.

Trumpet Creeper isn't doing anything???
I planted a small trumpet creeper I bought commercialy and it has been out a few weeks and has showed no signs of life. How long after planting does it take to start growing????
Trumpet Creeper isn't doing anything???
Don't worry it will!!!!!
They grown underground, and once they take hold it is almost impossible to get rid of them.
It should start to climb in a month or two, but next year you will know you have a creeper..... Here, and over there, and over there.
Reply:These plants don't start till late spring. Its should be fine.
Reply:They are "late risers" - so it can be good to plant some spring bulbs at the base of the plant to remind yourself that they are late risers - I do that with my sleepy plants that "wake" later in the spring. It helps avoid a gap in the garden when the other plants are starting and it also avoids a gap in the garden when the spring ephemerals go dormant. I also add bulbs around my later peonies, purple queen secreatia, etc.

Trumpet playing confusion with braces?
Yes, I have been playing trumpet with braces for 3 months now and my tone and range are really good again if anything better. I've played trumpet for 7 years now. But for the last couple of days i've been sounding like crap. my lip has been getting cut up from my braces again tho if it helps with answering my question. Is this normal? Does this just happen every so often because i havent changed any way in my trumpet playing although my throught has been hurting lately. Thanks if you guys can help me out.
Trumpet playing confusion with braces?
I would say to expect it to happen every so often....after all....the position of your teeth is being gradually changed!
So, one day...that position hits the "crap" spot (for want of a better word).
Reply:From what I understand from friends, it's pretty normal. You might consider getting guard for your braces so you don't cut your lip (my friend has one- perhaps local music shop has one?) depending on how long you'll have braces.
Here's a site that could possibly have tips.
Reply:wax on, wax off! Good luck.
Reply:perhaps your braces are changing the shape of your mouth. If that is the case, practice through it and you will get your tone back soon.

I had braces for a while and I played trumpet. The same thing happened to me. You can buy dental wax at like Walmart or something and stick it on your braces where they cut your lip. When you're done playing just take it off or people look at you kind of funny. If that doesn't work fo you then you have to tough it out and keep on playing.
Best of luck,
Bethany
Reply:i have played trumpet for more than 9 years now... and four of those years, were with braces... i tried the wax... i tried the little plastic **** that you can slide right over your braces... nothin really worked... so i just sucked it up... and continued playing. my lips got cut, sometimes to the point were they were bleeding so bad, when the "water" was emptied it was red. but i kept playing. really... this is the only way i really could have ever imagined playing with braces... because you realize that calluses form fairly quickly, and, once they form, your playing will be perfect for braces... as long as you actually play every day... i hope this helps... i kno it's just my story, but i really hated the wax and stuff that supposedly "helps"
