Trumpet practice troubles.?

I'm having trouble with my practice, I'm not sure if I'm really getting the most out of it i possibly can.

I've heard of some pencil excercise but I'm not sure how to actually do it. I would really like to improve my range.

Also, when i play a 5th line F and i pull the trumpet away, my lips are usually a mess, so any lip buzzing tips would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

Trumpet practice troubles.?
i've played trumpet for about 5 years. Usually when you try to play higher then you tend to tighten up, when you play just relax and it will really help. You can also go out and get a little pipe thing and breath in and out of it for breathing excercises and it really helps. And buzzing is awsome too, when you are trying to play something then you can first sing it and then buzz it.

now as far as range for about 10 min. a day start on a middle staff G and then go up by half steps and hold out the note for 8 counts, and when your tones starts to sound bad then just put your horn up. and that will really help your range.
Reply:ok before, after, any time you get tired buzz/roll your lips you know so it makes that horse sound. i hope u know wat im talkin bout cuz it helps relax your lips and it helps you to buzz and play better.
Reply:I play tuba trumpet and trombone. Buzz upa nd down the scale as a warmup. To reduce spit pull the croners of your mouth in tighter.
