Trumpet mouthpiece cleaning tips?

I am starting on trumpet and I have a used mouthpiece. I know the last person who used it and I know they don't have any horrible STDs or anything, I just need some tips for easy sanitizing without any fancy products. Listerine maybe?

Trumpet mouthpiece cleaning tips?
I'm not sure it's advisable to use any kind of manufactured solutions.

Simply sanitize the mouthpiece in boiling water for seven minutes and wipe/clean with sanitary cloth %26amp; q-tip.
Reply:hector, that mouthpiece would have had to have been embroiled in all manner of sordid trumpet practice for you to be at risk from catching an STD from it.

it's a mouthpiece.

not a sex toy for the whore of babylon. Report It

Reply:Use the alcohol wipes that comes in the little square. Just rub that around the mouthpiece.
Reply:If you don't want to go out and actually buy a mouthpiece clenser, then don't put any other product on it either. That will only make it worse or ruin the mouthpiece. All you have to do is boil it for ten minutes and wipe it down. But, not with a wet wipe or anything. just a towel. If you have a mouthpiece brush, you can use that BEFORE you boil it.
Reply:Try using a mouthpiece brush and clean the bore and cup with soap and water. To keep it clean wash the bore with soap and water using the mouthpiece brush.
Reply:I Have a Tuba mouthpiece, and I personally like to use toothpaste and an old toothbrush. it works great! the mouthpiece stays smelling good for a week. it doesn't harm the brass either.
