Trumpet mute?

Does anyone know how to make a cheap mute for trumpet?

Trumpet mute?
Just like the others have said, you can easily use a plunger, but unlike what they said, you need to get a sink plunger, not a toilet. A toilet plunger is better suited for a trombone bell size. The sink plunger size is perfect for trumpets and is used to create the "Wah-Wah" sound.

It does however all depend on what style of sound you're going for. If you just want a freeform mute for messing around, then the plunger is a good choice. If the piece that you are playing requires a certain style of mute, it is best to go ahead and get that one (is best when the director uses band money to buy rather than you yourself ;) )
Reply:there are different kinds of mutes---try this and see if it works for you----buy a cheap bathroom plunger----take the handle off leaving only the plunger and use it as a mute.--this will not attach to the horn---hold horn in one hand and plunger in the other---you can open and close the plunger to make different sounds.----you should be able to get a plunger at a dollar store----it will work
Reply:if it's what you're looking for, you can buy a toilet plunger and then put it over the bell . this works well for jazz!
Reply:Tha tis easy..... use your hand:) Or, a small head Cap...That is all you need.
