Trumpet sores?

I play the trumpet in 8th grade, and sometimes when i practice a lot (7 hours in a day) i get a pimple or bump on my lip..and it hurts when play or touch it. And it turns the girls away :(... How do i make it go away quickly?

Trumpet sores?
Don't play 7 hours a day, but anyway use something like Carmex
Reply:you're in freaking 8th grade you dont need to be practicing 7 hours a day. i say 3 or 4 max and take a break every hour or so. im a sophmore in honors band and i know that you really shouldn't overplay too much...you could end up with a permanent problem with your lips. try a cold sore cream to get rid of the bump, and good luck with the ladies ;)
Reply:Bro, 7 hours of trumpet playing is no way to spend you're vacation. Unless you have been playing since you three years old, you cannot have the stamina for 7 hours of straight trumpet playing. Regardless for those nasty bumps: you are putting too much pressure on your lips when you are playing. You need to learn to not play so hard. Here is an exercise that will help you become an extremely good trumpet player. Remove the mouthpiece from the horn and hold it at the very edge with just your thumb and forefinger. Bring the mouthpiece up to your lips and buzz long notes. Then buzz a scale with the help of a piano. This will force you to not rely on pressure to play.

You should only be playing 2 hours maximum a day excluding warm up and cool down. That is the window of time where your chop muscles are at its peak. Anymore than that requires years of endurance training. Play with heart.
Reply:You should not be playing for 7 hours a day if it affects your lips like that, and your only in the eighth grade, relax, you do not have to practice that much(1-3 hours is more than enough). Also, what could you play for 7 hours and not be bored to death with?
