Stuck Trumpet Mouthpiece- HELP!?

My son came home from school with his mouthpiece stuck in his trumpet. His teacher tried the mechanical puller (that little leverage device). We've also tried hot water to no avail. The mouthpiece is still stuck fast.





How the heck can we get it out?

If the music teacher had a mouthpiece puller and it didn't work--then there is nothing you can do, and if you try, you may damage the instrument and wind up with a worse repair bill than you already have.





Take this thing to a music store that has an authorized repair department. Now, it's possible that your boy's music teacher just didn't use the mouthpiece puller properly--and in that case, you'll get the job done for little cost and you'll have it back almost immediately in most shops. Otherwise, they'll have to use some special techniques that are not for the amateur--and you'll be out a bit more cash.





But either of those scenarios is far better than having to pay big bucks for the music repair shop to weld together the big split in the tubing, or remove the dents, or re-solder the joints that you pulled apart.

Reply:take it to a music store and see if they can get it out. just dont try to get it out yourself! you could cause more damage to the horn.

Reply:as was said - go to the shop with it. There are different types of puller and most mouthpieces will come out with a bench mounted heavy duty one (which band directors don't have).





If it won't come out with a puller, the shop will have to take that part of the tubing off and .... money. The way this happens to the horn is that it falls hard on the mouthpiece. Normally, stuck is no big deal.





If you attempt pliers, twisting, etc... you will break the joint on that tubing and it will cost you more than if you had just gone to the shop.
