Learning trumpet?

i'm learning trumpet and i'm very good at many instruments. but i'm looking at trying to make my trumpet playing as good as those. i made districts on flute this year. so any scales, techniques or suggestions to help me work on my playing level. thanks

I'd recommend getting the buzzing technique down... Before anything though, do some deep breathing to get your lungs ready... Place the mouth piece up to your mouth and blow (without vibrating your lips) now slowly "focus" your air until your lips begin to vibrate by themselves... This helps you relax your embechure and get rid of any tightness in your tone... Also remember to keep your throat open, try playing while thinking the syllable "Oh." Now, to build range try some lip slurs... Simply play on one finger position and blow quicker air to slur to a higher note, then back down again. You can change the interval each time and this helps you increase your range and strengthens your lip muscles... But perhaps the most important thing is to learn at least your 12 major scales, in as many octaves possible... Try tounging notes up, and sluring down, playing a pattern of "quarter note, eight, eight, eight, eigth, eigth, eigth, quarter note, (now back down) eight, eight, eigth, eight, eigth, eigth, quarter note (now arpeggio) eight, eight, quarter, eight eight, quarter" these things can help you improve your trumpet playing skills exponentially, just remember to practice everyday to build them up quicker.

Reply:I personally think that trumpet is the easiest instrument to learn how to play.


Just memorize the scales in the back of your book, focus on good tone, and practice the high notes. You should be able to make it at least to high G on a trumpet. Also, look for patterns to help you memorize notes.

Also, get a Bach 7 1/2 size mouthpiece.
